Early and regular prenatal care should be a priority for every pregnant woman.  Regular visits to your pregnancy care provider can help ensure a healthier pregnancy and a better birth outcome for your baby.  Be sure to eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients and vitamins.  Especially important is folic acid, which can be helpful in the prevention of birth defects. A healthy diet consists of regular consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables and protein rich foods such as chicken or lean beef.  Beans and legumes are also a great source of protein.  Also, follow your pregnancy care providers’ recommendation about taking prenatal vitamins.  Get plenty of rest and consider exercise as advised by your pregnancy care provider.  Remember to avoid alcohol and cigarettes since studies have shown that they are harmful to your unborn baby.

For additional information contact WIC at 1-800-342-3556. WIC is the USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

If you are pregnant, you may qualify for a Medicaid program called MomCare. MomCare is available to women who have proof of a positive pregnancy test, have maximum household income at or below 185% of the poverty level, are a resident of Florida and are a United States citizen or legal alien. If your family meets these guidelines, you will be enrolled into the MomCare program. Even if you or other family members are working you may still be eligible.
