GAINESVILLE, Fla. (June 14, 2009) —WellFlorida Council held a ceremony on June 14 to mark the dedication of the “DeWayne Yates Conference Room” as a lasting tribute to a long-time board member who lost his battle with leukemia earlier this year.

Yates, 37, of Trenton, Fla. was the CEO of the Family Medical and Dental Centers and Trenton Medical Center. He actively participated in many organizations that shared his goal of improving healthcare in North Central Florida. Some of his community involvements included: Vice President of Rural Health Partnership and the Florida Association of Community Healthy Centers, current Treasurer of the Community Health Center Alliance and Suwannee River Area Health Education Center, and immediate past Chairman of Meridian Behavioral Health Care, Inc.

Steven Oliva, CEO of WellFlorida Council, said Yates was a visionary.

“One of DeWayne’s passions was to bring quality healthcare to our rural areas.”

The dedication ceremony was attended by WellFlorida board members and staff, Yate’s wife, Marsha Yates, family members and friends.

WellFlorida’s mission is to forge partnerships in planning, research and service that build healthier communities.
