GAINESVILLE, Fla. (May 20, 2008)—African American pregnant women, families and community leaders are invited to attend Celebrating Healthy Babies—A Healthy Baby Begins with You. Information, education and resources to promote healthy babies and healthy families in Putnam County will be the focus of the day. The event takes place on Saturday, May 31 from 10 am to 2pm at Moesely Elementary School, 1001 Husson Avenue, Palatka.

(April 30, 2008)The Rural Health Partnership of North Central Florida (RHP) recently received a three-year grant of $180,000 per year from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Grant funds will be used to improve and expand RHP’s infrastructure, services and activities, and implement a pilot project for Medicaid patients.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2008)—Putnam County has the highest infant mortality rate in the state. Black babies are 2.7 times more likely to die than white babies in the county. Black babies in Putnam County are 2 times more likely to die than black babies throughout Florida.
