GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Dec. 15)— WellFlorida Council has published the Safety Net Healthcare Providers Directory, a comprehensive listing of free and low-cost healthcare providers in North Central Florida.

The directory was created by WellFlorida to address the needs of its Health Insurance Marketplace Navigators. Navigators help consumers understand insurance options and enroll in coverage through the Marketplace (the insurance program created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act).

While health insurance enrollment through the Affordable Care Act continues until Feb. 15, Monday is a key date.

For those who do not now have health insurance through the ACA but plan to enroll, Monday is the deadline to sign up and have coverage beginning Jan. 1.

Open enrollment for the second year of the Health Insurance Marketplace began on Nov. 15 of this year. The Florida Department of Health is partnering with WellFlorida to manage mini-grant distribution and provide technical assistance and expert mentoring services to diabetes self-management education programs (DSME) in Hamilton, Suwannee, Lafayette, Dixie, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Union, Bradford, Putnam and Lake Counties.

UF’s pre-health honor society and a local health nonprofit organization are teaming up to host an HIV testing and sexual health awareness event for the first time today.

The WellFlorida Council will be administering free HIV tests, while Alpha Epsilon Delta will spread the word on safe sex from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Reitz Union Lawn.
