Upcoming Training Sessions: Safe Routes to School

Safe Routes to School is scheduling trainings for teachers and community professionals in Bradford, Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Putnam and Union counties. The purpose of the trainings is to teach those who work with children about bicycle and pedestrian safety. Attendees learn laws, safe practices, lessons, proper helmet fit, and how to set up a bicycle safety rodeo. Those who attend the training are able to reserve a trailer with 24 bicycles on it for safety events with students and the community.

Sumter County Focus Groups

On December 14 and 19, Sumter County residents are invited to join a focus group to talk about the health of their communities. Participants will earn $20 for roughly 90 minutes of their time. The focus groups are part of Sumter’s community health assessment and will help Florida Department of Health gain a better understanding of health issues that are important to the community and its leaders. Lafayette and Suwannee County invited to share views on community health

The Florida Department of Health in Lafayette and Suwannee Counties, in partnership with WellFlorida Council, the local health planning council for North Central Florida, are encouraging community members to share their views on health by taking a 10-minute survey. The surveys are available at www.WellFlorida.org (select “Survey”). Participants will be entered to win a $20 gift card.

The High Impact Prevention (HIP) project, brought to you by WellFlorida Council, will be attending both the Ocala PrideFest on Oct. 7 and the Gainesville Pride festival on Oct. 21. DSME Mini-Grant Funding Opportunity

WellFlorida Council is pleased to announce the availability of mini-grant funding from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to expand access to Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) programs in North Central Florida. People with diabetes who complete a DSME program are better able to manage their disease and prevent or delay complications. The Marion County Hospital District Board of Trustees (MCHD) is pleased to announce grant funding opportunities to improve the health of residents in Marion County.
