Central and North Central Florida Healthy Start have partnered with University of Florida Master of Public Health students to survey pregnant women and new moms about a free community doula program. Doulas are non-medical professionals who help moms through labor, and provide emotional, physical and information support to her and her new family. Marion County residents, community-based organizations, social service providers and healthcare professionals are invited to take a 10-minute survey to help identify the county’s most pressing health concerns. The Community Health Needs Assessment Survey is being conducted by the region’s health planning council WellFlorida Council, in partnership with Florida Department of Health in Marion County and AdventHealth.

Alachua County’s syringe exchange program currently waits for funding to begin implementation at local organizations like GRACE Marketplace, UF’s Mobile Outreach Clinic and Meridian Behavioral Health Services.

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners discussed the program at Tuesday’s commission meeting.
